Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cut into small pieces
  • 1/2 cup warm milk
  • 1 tablespoon active dry yeast
  • 8 slices ham
  • 8 slices cheese
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix the flour, sugar, and salt. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  2. In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm milk and let it sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  3. Pour the yeast mixture into the flour mixture and stir until a dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5 minutes, then cover and let it rise for 1 hour.
  5. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  6. Divide the dough into 8 equal portions and roll each portion into a triangle shape.
  7. Place a slice of ham and a slice of cheese on each triangle, then roll it up from the base to the point.
  8. Place the cachitos on a baking sheet, brush with the beaten egg, and bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
