Ingredients
- 2 cups masa harina
- 1 cup chicken broth
- 1/2 cup lard
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp salt
- 12 pieces banana leaves, softened
- 1 lb pork shoulder, cooked and shredded
- 1 cup tomato sauce
- 1/2 cup green bell pepper, chopped
- 1/2 cup onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp cumin
- 1 tsp oregano
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix the masa harina, chicken broth, lard, baking powder, and salt to form a smooth dough.
- Spread the masa onto the softened banana leaves, then add a spoonful of the shredded pork filling in the center.
- Fold the banana leaves to form a packet, then tie with kitchen twine.
- In a large pot, arrange the tamales and steam for 1 hour.
- Let the tamales cool for a few minutes before serving.
