Delicious Tavë Shkodrane
Tavë Shkodrane is a traditional Albanian dish that features layers of vegetables, meat, and cheese, all baked to perfection. This hearty casserole is a favorite in Albanian cuisine and is perfect for a comforting family meal.
Ingredients
- 1 large eggplant, sliced
- 4 potatoes, peeled and sliced
- 1 lb ground beef or lamb
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 tomatoes, sliced
- 1 cup feta cheese, crumbled
- 1/2 cup olive oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Layer the sliced eggplant and potatoes in a greased baking dish.
- In a skillet, brown the ground meat with the chopped onion. Season with salt and pepper.
- Spread the meat mixture over the potato and eggplant layers.
- Top with sliced tomatoes and crumbled feta cheese.
- Drizzle the olive oil over the top and season with additional salt and pepper.
- Cover the dish with foil and bake for 45 minutes. Then, uncover and bake for an additional 15 minutes until the top is golden brown.
- Let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
