Delicious Tomato Onion Chutney (ಟೊಮೇಟೊ ಈರುಳ್ಳಿ ಚಟ್ನಿ)
This delicious Tomato Onion Chutney is a popular condiment in Udupi cuisine, known for its bold flavors and versatile uses. It pairs perfectly with dosa, idli, or even as a spread for sandwiches.
Ingredients
- 2 ripe tomatoes, chopped
- 1 large onion, sliced
- 2-3 dry red chilies
- 1/2 teaspoon urad dal
- 1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds
- 1/4 teaspoon asafoetida (hing)
- 5-6 curry leaves
- 1 tablespoon oil
- Salt to taste
Instructions
- Heat oil in a pan and add urad dal, mustard seeds, dry red chilies, and curry leaves. Sauté until the dal turns golden brown.
- Add sliced onions and sauté until they turn translucent.
- Now, add the chopped tomatoes and cook until they turn mushy.
- Add salt and hing, then turn off the heat and allow the mixture to cool.
- Once cooled, blend the mixture into a smooth chutney using a blender or food processor.
- Transfer the chutney to a serving bowl and it's ready to be enjoyed!
