Dikgobe Donuts
Dikgobe Donuts are a popular sweet treat in Botswana, made with a unique combination of ingredients that create a delicious and satisfying snack.
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 large egg
- 2 tbsp butter, melted
- Oil for deep frying
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix together the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and nutmeg.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, egg, and melted butter.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until a dough forms.
- On a floured surface, roll out the dough to 1/2 inch thickness and cut out donut shapes using a donut cutter or two different sized round cookie cutters.
- Heat the oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 375°F (190°C).
- Carefully place the donuts in the hot oil and fry for 2-3 minutes per side, until golden brown.
- Remove the donuts from the oil and place on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
- Let the donuts cool slightly before serving.
