Dikgobe Donuts

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tbsp butter, melted
  • Oil for deep frying

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix together the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and nutmeg.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, egg, and melted butter.
  3. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until a dough forms.
  4. On a floured surface, roll out the dough to 1/2 inch thickness and cut out donut shapes using a donut cutter or two different sized round cookie cutters.
  5. Heat the oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 375°F (190°C).
  6. Carefully place the donuts in the hot oil and fry for 2-3 minutes per side, until golden brown.
  7. Remove the donuts from the oil and place on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
  8. Let the donuts cool slightly before serving.
