Ingredients
- 8 fresh Baltic herring fillets
- 1 cup white vinegar
- 1/2 cup water
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 tablespoon salt
- 1 small red onion, thinly sliced
- 1 bunch fresh dill, chopped
Instructions
- In a small bowl, mix the white vinegar, water, sugar, and salt until the sugar and salt are dissolved.
- Place the herring fillets, red onion, and chopped dill in a glass or plastic container.
- Pour the vinegar mixture over the herring, making sure it's completely covered.
- Cover the container and refrigerate for at least 6 hours or overnight.
- Serve the marinated herring cold, garnished with additional dill and accompanied by dark rye bread.
