Dogfish Soup (sopa De Cação)

Ingredients

  • 1 lb dogfish fillets
  • 2 onions, chopped
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 large potatoes, diced
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 6 cups fish or vegetable broth
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the onions and garlic, and sauté until they are soft and translucent.
  2. Add the potatoes, bay leaf, and cilantro to the pot. Season with salt and pepper, and cook for 5 minutes.
  3. Pour in the fish or vegetable broth and bring the soup to a boil. Reduce the heat and let it simmer for 30 minutes.
  4. Add the dogfish fillets to the pot and simmer for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the fish is cooked through.
  5. Remove the bay leaf and adjust the seasoning if needed. Serve the soup hot, garnished with fresh cilantro.
