Dolma (armenian Stuffed Onions)
Dolma is a traditional Armenian dish that consists of stuffed onions. This flavorful and aromatic dish is a staple in Armenian cuisine and is often served at special occasions and family gatherings.
Ingredients
- 8 large onions
- 1 cup rice
- 1/2 lb ground beef
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh mint
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 lemon, juiced
- 2 cups vegetable broth
Instructions
- Peel the onions and cut off the tops. Scoop out the centers, leaving a few outer layers intact to form a shell.
- In a bowl, mix together the rice, ground beef, parsley, mint, olive oil, salt, pepper, paprika, cinnamon, and lemon juice.
- Stuff the onion shells with the rice and beef mixture.
- Place the stuffed onions in a pot and pour the vegetable broth over them.
- Cover the pot and cook the dolma over medium heat for 1 hour, or until the onions are tender and the filling is cooked through.
- Serve the dolma hot, garnished with additional fresh herbs if desired.
