Dominican Plantain Lasagna (Pastelón de Plátano Dominicano)
Pastelón de Plátano Dominicano, also known as Dominican Plantain Lasagna, is a traditional Dominican dish that combines layers of ripe plantains, savory ground meat, and cheese. Ingredients
- 4 ripe plantains, peeled and sliced lengthwise
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 onion, diced
- 2 bell peppers, diced
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 cup tomato sauce
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the onions, bell peppers, and garlic. Cook until the vegetables are softened.
- Add the ground beef to the skillet and cook until browned. Season with oregano, cumin, salt, and pepper. Stir in the tomato sauce and simmer for 5 minutes.
- Layer half of the sliced plantains in a greased baking dish. Top with half of the meat mixture and half of the shredded mozzarella and cheddar cheeses. Repeat the layers with the remaining plantains, meat mixture, and cheeses.
- Cover the baking dish with foil and bake for 30 minutes. Then, remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
- Let the pastelón de plátano cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
