Donut

Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Oil for frying
  • Optional: Glaze, powdered sugar, or filling of your choice

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, and salt.
  2. In a separate bowl, dissolve the yeast in the warm milk and let it sit for 5 minutes.
  3. Add the yeast mixture, eggs, butter, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Mix until a dough forms.
  4. Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour.
  5. Roll out the dough on a floured surface and cut out donut shapes using a donut cutter or two different-sized round cookie cutters.
  6. Heat the oil in a deep pot to 375°F (190°C) and fry the donuts in batches until golden brown, about 1-2 minutes per side.
  7. Remove the donuts from the oil and let them drain on a paper towel-lined plate.
  8. If desired, glaze, sprinkle with powdered sugar, or fill the donuts with your favorite filling.
