Doro Key Sir Wat is a traditional Ethiopian dish featuring spiced chicken and carrots in a rich and flavorful curry sauce. This dish is a perfect combination of aromatic spices and tender chicken, creating a comforting and satisfying meal.
Ingredients
- 4 chicken thighs
- 1 large onion, finely chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1-inch piece of ginger, grated
- 2 carrots, sliced
- 2 tbsp berbere spice mix
- 1/2 cup chicken broth
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- Salt to taste
- Water
Instructions
- Heat the olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the onions and cook until soft and translucent.
- Add the garlic, ginger, and berbere spice mix. Cook for 2-3 minutes, stirring constantly to prevent burning.
- Add the chicken thighs to the pot and brown on all sides.
- Pour in the chicken broth and enough water to cover the chicken. Season with salt to taste.
- Add the sliced carrots to the pot. Cover and simmer for 45-50 minutes, or until the chicken is tender and the sauce has thickened.
- Serve the Doro Key Sir Wat hot with injera or rice.
