Doufu Pi Niu Rou (braised Beef With Tofu Skin)

Ingredients

  • 1 lb beef, thinly sliced
  • 6 pieces dried tofu skin
  • 3 slices ginger
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 green onions, chopped
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp dark soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp Shaoxing wine
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1/2 tsp five-spice powder
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Soak the dried tofu skin in warm water for 30 minutes, then cut into smaller pieces.
  2. Heat vegetable oil in a pot and sauté ginger, garlic, and green onions until fragrant.
  3. Add the beef slices and cook until browned.
  4. Pour in soy sauce, dark soy sauce, Shaoxing wine, sugar, and five-spice powder. Stir to combine.
  5. Add the soaked tofu skin and beef broth. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 1 hour.
  6. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  7. Serve the braised beef with tofu skin hot, garnished with additional green onions if desired.
