Kardantu is a traditional dry fruit sweet from Uttara Karnataka, known for its exquisite taste and rich texture. This sweet is made with a combination of dry fruits, jaggery, and ghee, making it a delightful treat for special occasions and festivals.

Dry Fruit Sweet (exquisite Kardantu)

Ingredients

  • 1 cup chopped almonds
  • 1 cup chopped cashews
  • 1 cup chopped pistachios
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts
  • 2 cups grated jaggery
  • 1/2 cup ghee
  • 1/2 teaspoon cardamom powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon saffron strands

Instructions

  1. In a heavy-bottomed pan, heat ghee over medium heat.
  2. Add the chopped almonds, cashews, pistachios, and walnuts to the pan. Roast the dry fruits until they turn golden and aromatic.
  3. Once the dry fruits are roasted, add the grated jaggery to the pan. Stir continuously until the jaggery melts and forms a thick syrup.
  4. Add cardamom powder, nutmeg powder, and saffron strands to the mixture. Stir well to combine all the ingredients.
  5. Continue cooking the mixture until it thickens and starts leaving the sides of the pan.
  6. Transfer the mixture to a greased plate and spread it evenly. Allow it to cool for a few minutes.
  7. Cut the cooled mixture into small square pieces to form Kardantu.
  8. Store the Kardantu in an airtight container once it cools completely.
