Dry Fruit Sweet (exquisite Kardantu)
Kardantu is a traditional dry fruit sweet from Uttara Karnataka, known for its exquisite taste and rich texture. This sweet is made with a combination of dry fruits, jaggery, and ghee, making it a delightful treat for special occasions and festivals.
Ingredients
- 1 cup chopped almonds
- 1 cup chopped cashews
- 1 cup chopped pistachios
- 1 cup chopped walnuts
- 2 cups grated jaggery
- 1/2 cup ghee
- 1/2 teaspoon cardamom powder
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg powder
- 1/4 teaspoon saffron strands
Instructions
- In a heavy-bottomed pan, heat ghee over medium heat.
- Add the chopped almonds, cashews, pistachios, and walnuts to the pan. Roast the dry fruits until they turn golden and aromatic.
- Once the dry fruits are roasted, add the grated jaggery to the pan. Stir continuously until the jaggery melts and forms a thick syrup.
- Add cardamom powder, nutmeg powder, and saffron strands to the mixture. Stir well to combine all the ingredients.
- Continue cooking the mixture until it thickens and starts leaving the sides of the pan.
- Transfer the mixture to a greased plate and spread it evenly. Allow it to cool for a few minutes.
- Cut the cooled mixture into small square pieces to form Kardantu.
- Store the Kardantu in an airtight container once it cools completely.
