Egg Caldin (goan Style Egg Curry)
Egg Caldin is a traditional Goan dish that features hard-boiled eggs in a flavorful coconut-based curry. This creamy and aromatic curry is a staple in Goan cuisine and is perfect for a comforting meal.
Ingredients
- 6 hard-boiled eggs
- 1 cup grated coconut
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2-3 green chilies, slit
- 1-inch ginger, grated
- 4-5 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon coriander powder
- 1/2 teaspoon cumin powder
- 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
- 1/2 teaspoon garam masala
- 1 tablespoon tamarind paste
- 2 cups water
- Salt to taste
- 2 tablespoons oil
Instructions
- In a blender, combine the grated coconut, chopped onion, green chilies, ginger, and garlic. Blend to a smooth paste by adding a little water if needed.
- Heat oil in a pan and add the ground paste. Cook for 5-7 minutes until the raw smell disappears.
- Add turmeric powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, red chili powder, and salt. Mix well and cook for another 2-3 minutes.
- Pour in the water and bring the curry to a gentle boil.
- Add the tamarind paste and garam masala. Stir well and simmer for 5 minutes.
- Gently add the hard-boiled eggs to the curry and cook for an additional 5 minutes.
- Once the eggs are heated through, remove from heat and serve hot with steamed rice or crusty bread.
