Eingelegte Gurken (pickled Cucumbers)

Ingredients

  • 6-8 small pickling cucumbers
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 1/2 cups white vinegar
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tbsp salt
  • 4 cloves garlic, peeled
  • 2 tsp whole black peppercorns
  • 2 bay leaves

Instructions

  1. Wash the cucumbers and slice off the ends. Cut into spears or slices, depending on your preference.
  2. In a saucepan, combine water, vinegar, sugar, and salt. Bring to a boil, stirring to dissolve the sugar and salt.
  3. Place the garlic, peppercorns, and bay leaves in the bottom of two clean jars. Pack the cucumber slices or spears into the jars, leaving a little space at the top.
  4. Pour the hot vinegar mixture over the cucumbers, ensuring they are completely covered. Seal the jars tightly.
  5. Allow the pickled cucumbers to cool to room temperature, then refrigerate for at least 24 hours before serving.
