Elu Kari (spicy Mutton Korma)
Elu Kari, also known as Spicy Mutton Korma, is a traditional Sri Lankan dish that is rich in flavor and spices. This aromatic and hearty curry is perfect for a special occasion or a family gathering.
Ingredients
- 500g mutton, cut into pieces
- 2 onions, finely chopped
- 3 tomatoes, pureed
- 1/2 cup yogurt
- 2 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- 2 tsp red chili powder
- 1 tsp coriander powder
- 1/2 tsp garam masala
- 4-5 green chilies, slit
- 1/4 cup oil
- Salt to taste
- Fresh coriander leaves for garnish
Instructions
- Heat oil in a large pot and sauté the chopped onions until golden brown.
- Add the ginger-garlic paste and sauté for a few minutes.
- Add the mutton pieces and cook until they are browned on all sides.
- Stir in the tomato puree, turmeric powder, red chili powder, coriander powder, and salt. Cook for 5-7 minutes.
- Pour in the yogurt and mix well. Add the green chilies and garam masala.
- Cover the pot and let the mutton cook on low heat for about 45-50 minutes or until tender.
- Garnish with fresh coriander leaves before serving.
