Elu Kari (spicy Mutton Korma)

Ingredients

  • 500g mutton, cut into pieces
  • 2 onions, finely chopped
  • 3 tomatoes, pureed
  • 1/2 cup yogurt
  • 2 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 2 tsp red chili powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1/2 tsp garam masala
  • 4-5 green chilies, slit
  • 1/4 cup oil
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh coriander leaves for garnish

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a large pot and sauté the chopped onions until golden brown.
  2. Add the ginger-garlic paste and sauté for a few minutes.
  3. Add the mutton pieces and cook until they are browned on all sides.
  4. Stir in the tomato puree, turmeric powder, red chili powder, coriander powder, and salt. Cook for 5-7 minutes.
  5. Pour in the yogurt and mix well. Add the green chilies and garam masala.
  6. Cover the pot and let the mutton cook on low heat for about 45-50 minutes or until tender.
  7. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves before serving.
