Ingredients

  • 3 cups cooked rice
  • 2 lemons, juiced
  • 1/4 cup peanuts
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 1 teaspoon urad dal (black gram lentils)
  • 2-3 green chilies, slit
  • 1/4 teaspoon asafoetida (hing)
  • 10-12 curry leaves
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a pan and add the mustard seeds. Once they start to splutter, add the urad dal, peanuts, green chilies, and curry leaves. Sauté until the dal turns golden brown.
  2. Add asafoetida and mix well. Turn off the heat and allow the mixture to cool for a few minutes.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked rice, the prepared seasoning mixture, salt, and lemon juice. Gently mix until the rice is well coated with the seasoning.
  4. Elumichai Sadam is ready to be served. Garnish with additional curry leaves and lemon slices if desired.
