Emirati Luqaimat (honey Dumplings) With Cardamom Syrup

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon instant yeast
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/4 cups warm water
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • 1 cup honey
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon ground cardamom

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix the flour, instant yeast, sugar, and salt. Gradually add the warm water and mix until a smooth batter forms. Cover the bowl and let the batter rest for 1 hour.
  2. Heat vegetable oil in a deep pot over medium heat. Using a spoon, drop small portions of the batter into the hot oil and fry until golden brown. Remove the dumplings and place them on a paper towel to drain excess oil.
  3. In a saucepan, combine the honey, water, and ground cardamom. Bring to a simmer over medium heat, stirring constantly. Once the syrup thickens slightly, remove from heat.
  4. Drizzle the cardamom syrup over the fried dumplings and serve warm.
