Empanadas Chilenas De Carne (chilean-style Beef Empanadas)
Empanadas Chilenas de Carne, or Chilean-style Beef Empanadas, are a popular savory pastry in Chilean cuisine. These delicious hand pies are filled with a flavorful mixture of seasoned ground beef, onions, raisins, black olives, and hard-boiled eggs, all encased in a flaky pastry crust. They are perfect for a snack, appetizer, or even a main course.
Ingredients
- 1 lb (450g) ground beef
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 1/2 cup (75g) pitted black olives, chopped
- 1/3 cup (50g) raisins
- 2 hard-boiled eggs, chopped
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 12 empanada discs (store-bought or homemade)
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
Instructions
- In a large skillet, cook the ground beef and onions over medium heat until the beef is browned and the onions are soft.
- Add the olives, raisins, chopped hard-boiled eggs, cumin, paprika, oregano, salt, and pepper to the skillet. Stir to combine and cook for an additional 5 minutes. Remove from heat and let the filling cool.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Place a spoonful of the beef filling in the center of each empanada disc. Fold the dough over the filling to create a half-moon shape and crimp the edges with a fork to seal.
- Place the empanadas on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush the tops with the beaten egg.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the empanadas are golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes before serving.
