Empanadas De Carne Especiadas De Gibraltar (gibraltar's Spiced Beef Empanadas)
Empanadas de Carne Especiadas de Gibraltar, or Gibraltar's Spiced Beef Empanadas, are a popular dish in Gibraltarian cuisine. These savory pastries are filled with flavorful spiced beef and are perfect for a delicious snack or meal.
Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon cumin
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 package of store-bought empanada dough
Instructions
- In a skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, and cook until softened.
- Add the ground beef to the skillet and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks.
- Stir in the cumin, paprika, chili powder, salt, and pepper, and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes to allow the flavors to meld. Remove from heat and let the filling cool.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Roll out the empanada dough and cut it into circles using a round cutter or a small plate as a guide.
- Place a spoonful of the beef filling in the center of each dough circle. Fold the dough over the filling to create a half-moon shape, then crimp the edges with a fork to seal.
- Place the empanadas on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving.
