Emu Satay Skewers are a delicious fusion dish that combines the flavors of Australian and Chinese cuisines. The tender emu meat is marinated in a rich satay sauce and then grilled to perfection, resulting in a mouthwatering dish that is perfect for any occasion.
Ingredients
- 500g emu meat, cut into cubes
- 1 cup coconut milk
- 4 tablespoons soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons curry powder
- 1 tablespoon tamarind paste
- 1 teaspoon ground coriander
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon turmeric
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Wooden skewers, soaked in water
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine the coconut milk, soy sauce, brown sugar, curry powder, tamarind paste, ground coriander, ground cumin, turmeric, chili powder, garlic, and onion. Mix well to make the satay marinade.
- Add the emu meat to the marinade, making sure it is well coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or overnight for best results.
- Preheat the stovetop grill or a frying pan over medium-high heat.
- Thread the marinated emu meat onto the soaked wooden skewers.
- Brush the grill or pan with vegetable oil and cook the skewers for 3-4 minutes on each side, or until the meat is cooked through and slightly charred.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Serve the emu satay skewers hot with extra satay sauce for dipping and your choice of sides.
