Emu Satay Skewers (鸸鹋沙爹串)

Ingredients

  • 500g emu meat, cut into cubes
  • 1 cup coconut milk
  • 4 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons curry powder
  • 1 tablespoon tamarind paste
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Wooden skewers, soaked in water

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine the coconut milk, soy sauce, brown sugar, curry powder, tamarind paste, ground coriander, ground cumin, turmeric, chili powder, garlic, and onion. Mix well to make the satay marinade.
  2. Add the emu meat to the marinade, making sure it is well coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or overnight for best results.
  3. Preheat the stovetop grill or a frying pan over medium-high heat.
  4. Thread the marinated emu meat onto the soaked wooden skewers.
  5. Brush the grill or pan with vegetable oil and cook the skewers for 3-4 minutes on each side, or until the meat is cooked through and slightly charred.
  6. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  7. Serve the emu satay skewers hot with extra satay sauce for dipping and your choice of sides.
