Eral Mas Curry (spicy Sri Lankan Prawn Curry)
Eral Mas Curry, also known as Spicy Sri Lankan Prawn Curry, is a flavorful and aromatic dish that is a staple in Sri Lankan cuisine. This dish is packed with spices and coconut milk, creating a rich and creamy curry that pairs perfectly with steamed rice or bread.
Ingredients
- 500g prawns, cleaned and deveined
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 tomatoes, chopped
- 1 green chili, sliced
- 1 sprig curry leaves
- 1-inch pandan leaf (rampe)
- 1-inch cinnamon stick
- 3 cardamom pods
- 4 cloves
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 2 tablespoons chili powder
- 1 tablespoon coriander powder
- 1 cup thick coconut milk
- Salt to taste
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
Instructions
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large pan over medium heat.
- Add the chopped onion, green chili, curry leaves, pandan leaf, cinnamon stick, cardamom pods, and cloves. Sauté until the onions are golden brown.
- Add the turmeric powder, chili powder, and coriander powder. Cook for 2-3 minutes until the spices are fragrant.
- Add the chopped tomatoes and cook until they are soft and the oil starts to separate.
- Add the prawns and stir well to coat them with the spice mixture.
- Pour in the thick coconut milk and season with salt. Simmer for 5-7 minutes until the prawns are cooked through.
- Remove from heat and garnish with additional curry leaves, if desired.
