Eral Sukka (mangalorean Prawn Sukka)
Eral Sukka, also known as Mangalorean Prawn Sukka, is a delicious and spicy prawn dish from the Dakshina Karnataka Cuisine. It is a popular coastal dish that is bursting with flavors and is perfect for seafood lovers.
Ingredients
- 500g prawns, cleaned and deveined
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 1 tomato, finely chopped
- 1/2 cup freshly grated coconut
- 1 tbsp tamarind paste
- 2-3 green chilies, slit
- 1 inch ginger, finely chopped
- 4-5 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 tsp red chili powder
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp coriander powder
- 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
- 1 sprig curry leaves
- Salt to taste
- 2 tbsp oil
Instructions
- Heat oil in a pan and add cumin seeds. Once they splutter, add the chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
- Add the ginger, garlic, and green chilies. Sauté for a few minutes until the raw smell disappears.
- Now, add the chopped tomatoes and cook until they turn mushy.
- Next, add the turmeric powder, red chili powder, coriander powder, and salt. Mix well and cook for a couple of minutes.
- Add the cleaned prawns and tamarind paste. Mix gently and cook for 5-7 minutes until the prawns are cooked through.
- Finally, add the freshly grated coconut and curry leaves. Cook for another 2-3 minutes until the flavors are well combined.
- Remove from heat and serve hot with steamed rice or neer dosa.
