Eral Thokku (tangy Jaffna Prawn Curry)
Eral Thokku, also known as Tangy Jaffna Prawn Curry, is a popular dish in Sri Lankan cuisine. This delicious and spicy prawn curry is cooked in a tangy tomato-based gravy, infused with aromatic spices.
Ingredients
- 500g prawns, cleaned and deveined
- 2 onions, finely chopped
- 3 tomatoes, pureed
- 1/2 cup coconut milk
- 2 green chilies, slit
- 1 teaspoon ginger-garlic paste
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 tablespoon red chili powder
- 1 teaspoon coriander powder
- 1/2 teaspoon cumin powder
- 1/2 teaspoon fennel seeds
- 1 sprig curry leaves
- Salt to taste
- 2 tablespoons oil
Instructions
- Heat oil in a pan and add fennel seeds and curry leaves. Sauté for a minute.
- Add chopped onions and green chilies. Sauté until the onions turn golden brown.
- Add ginger-garlic paste and sauté for 2 minutes.
- Add turmeric powder, red chili powder, coriander powder, and cumin powder. Sauté for a minute.
- Pour in the tomato puree and cook until the oil separates.
- Add the prawns and coconut milk. Simmer for 5-7 minutes until the prawns are cooked through.
- Season with salt and garnish with fresh coriander leaves.
