Eral Varuval (chettinad Prawn Fry)
Eral Varuval, also known as Chettinad Prawn Fry, is a popular dish from the Chettinad cuisine of Tamil Nadu, India. It is a spicy and flavorful prawn fry that is perfect as an appetizer or a side dish.
Ingredients
- 500g prawns, cleaned and deveined
- 1 large onion, finely chopped
- 2 tomatoes, finely chopped
- 1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 2 tablespoons red chili powder
- 1 tablespoon coriander powder
- 1 teaspoon cumin powder
- 1 teaspoon fennel seeds
- Curry leaves
- Salt to taste
- Oil for frying
Instructions
- Heat oil in a pan and add fennel seeds and curry leaves.
- Add chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
- Add ginger-garlic paste and sauté until the raw smell disappears.
- Add chopped tomatoes and cook until they turn mushy.
- Now add turmeric powder, red chili powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, and salt. Cook the masala for a few minutes.
- Add the cleaned prawns and mix well with the masala. Cook for 5-7 minutes until the prawns are cooked through.
- Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot.
