Eritrean Beef Stew, also known as Tsebhi Sga, is a flavorful and hearty dish that is a staple in Eritrean cuisine. This slow-cooked stew is made with tender beef, onions, and a blend of aromatic spices, creating a rich and satisfying meal.
Ingredients
- 1.5 lbs beef, cubed
- 2 onions, finely chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tomatoes, diced
- 2 tbsp berbere spice mix
- 1 tsp ground cumin
- 1/2 tsp ground cardamom
- 1/4 tsp ground cloves
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 cups water
Instructions
- Heat the olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the onions and sauté until golden brown.
- Add the garlic, tomatoes, berbere spice mix, cumin, cardamom, and cloves. Cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Add the beef cubes to the pot and season with salt and pepper. Cook for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Pour in the water, bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to low. Cover and simmer for 2 hours, or until the beef is tender.
- Adjust the seasoning if needed and serve the Eritrean Beef Stew hot with injera or rice.
