Falafel Fiesta
Falafel is a popular Middle Eastern dish made from ground chickpeas or fava beans, mixed with herbs and spices, and then deep-fried to perfection. This recipe for Falafel Fiesta will bring the flavors of Israel right to your kitchen!
Ingredients
- 1 cup dried chickpeas
- 1 small onion, chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped
- 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped
- 1 tsp ground cumin
- 1 tsp ground coriander
- 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 4-6 tbsp all-purpose flour
- Vegetable oil for frying
Instructions
- Place dried chickpeas in a large bowl and cover with cold water. Let soak overnight, then drain.
- In a food processor, combine the soaked chickpeas, onion, garlic, parsley, cilantro, cumin, coriander, cayenne pepper, salt, and pepper. Pulse until mixture is finely ground but not pureed.
- Sprinkle in the baking powder and 4 tablespoons of flour, and pulse until combined. If the mixture seems too wet, add the remaining flour as needed.
- Transfer the mixture to a bowl, cover, and refrigerate for 1-2 hours.
- Form the falafel mixture into small balls or patties and fry in hot oil until golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes per side.
- Remove falafel from oil and drain on paper towels. Serve hot with pita bread, hummus, and tahini sauce.
