فلافل في الخبز (Falafel-Stuffed Pita Pockets) is a popular Jordanian street food that combines crispy falafel with fresh vegetables and flavorful sauces, all wrapped in warm pita bread.
Ingredients
- 1 ½ cups dried chickpeas, soaked overnight
- 1 small onion, chopped
- 3 cloves garlic
- 1 cup fresh parsley
- 1 tsp ground cumin
- 1 tsp ground coriander
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 4 pita bread rounds
- Shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, and sliced cucumbers for serving
- Tahini sauce and hot sauce for drizzling
Instructions
- In a food processor, combine the soaked chickpeas, onion, garlic, parsley, cumin, coriander, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper. Pulse until the mixture is finely ground but not pureed.
- Sprinkle the baking powder over the mixture and pulse to combine. The mixture should hold together when squeezed into a ball.
- Form the mixture into small balls and flatten slightly to form patties.
- Heat oil in a pan over medium heat and fry the falafel patties until golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes per side.
- Warm the pita bread rounds in a dry skillet or microwave.
- Stuff each pita with falafel patties, shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, and sliced cucumbers.
- Drizzle with tahini sauce and hot sauce, then serve immediately.
