Far Breton: Prune Custard Tart
Far Breton is a traditional Occitan dessert that features a custard-like filling studded with sweet prunes. This delicious prune custard tart is perfect for a cozy afternoon treat or a delightful dessert after a hearty meal.
Ingredients
- 1 cup pitted prunes
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 4 eggs
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Butter for greasing the pan
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9-inch tart pan with butter.
- Arrange the prunes in the bottom of the tart pan.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, and salt. Add the eggs and whisk until smooth.
- Slowly pour in the milk while whisking continuously. Add the vanilla extract and mix well.
- Pour the custard mixture over the prunes in the tart pan.
- Bake for 45 minutes, or until the custard is set and the top is golden brown.
- Let the tart cool before slicing and serving.
