Faroese Lamb Burgers with Lingonberry Sauce (Lambaborgarar við Trøðberjasoði)

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground lamb
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup lingonberries
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 4 hamburger buns
  • Lettuce and tomato for serving

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix the ground lamb, chopped onion, minced garlic, breadcrumbs, egg, salt, and pepper. Form the mixture into 4 patties.
  2. In a saucepan, combine the lingonberries, sugar, water, and lemon juice. Bring to a simmer and cook for 10-15 minutes until the sauce thickens.
  3. Heat a skillet over medium heat and cook the lamb patties for 4-5 minutes on each side, or until they reach your desired level of doneness.
  4. Toast the hamburger buns in the skillet for 1-2 minutes.
  5. Assemble the burgers by placing a lamb patty on each bun, topping with lingonberry sauce, lettuce, and tomato.
