Fenugreek Buttermilk, also known as Menthi Majjiga, is a traditional South Indian drink that is not only refreshing but also has numerous health benefits. This savory buttermilk is flavored with fenugreek leaves and a blend of spices, making it a perfect accompaniment to a spicy meal or a cooling drink on a hot day.
Ingredients
- 2 cups buttermilk
- 1/2 cup fresh fenugreek leaves, chopped
- 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1/2 teaspoon grated ginger
- 1 green chili, finely chopped
- Salt to taste
- 1 tablespoon oil
- 1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds
- 1/4 teaspoon asafoetida (hing)
- 5-6 curry leaves
Instructions
- In a bowl, whisk the buttermilk until smooth.
- Add chopped fenugreek leaves, cumin seeds, grated ginger, green chili, and salt to the buttermilk. Mix well.
- Heat oil in a small pan and add mustard seeds. Once they start to splutter, add asafoetida and curry leaves. Pour this tempering over the buttermilk mixture and stir gently.
- Refrigerate the fenugreek buttermilk for at least 30 minutes before serving.
