Fenugreek Peas (Methi Malai Mutter) is a classic North Indian dish that combines the bitterness of fenugreek leaves with the sweetness of green peas in a creamy and aromatic sauce.
Ingredients
- 1 cup fenugreek leaves (methi), washed and chopped
- 1 cup green peas
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 1 tomato, pureed
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1 teaspoon ginger-garlic paste
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon coriander powder
- 1/2 teaspoon garam masala
- 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
- Salt to taste
- 2 tablespoons ghee (clarified butter) or oil
- Fresh cilantro leaves for garnish
Instructions
- Heat ghee or oil in a pan and add cumin seeds. Once they splutter, add the chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
- Add the ginger-garlic paste and sauté for a minute. Then, add the tomato puree and cook until the oil separates.
- Add the turmeric, coriander powder, garam masala, red chili powder, and salt. Cook for a few minutes.
- Add the chopped fenugreek leaves and green peas. Mix well and cook for 5 minutes.
- Pour in the heavy cream and simmer for 5-7 minutes until the sauce thickens.
- Garnish with fresh cilantro leaves and serve hot with naan or rice.
