Ingredients

  • 2 lbs chicken, cut into pieces
  • 2 cups pomegranate juice
  • 1 cup walnuts, ground
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until translucent.
  2. Add the chicken pieces to the pot and brown on all sides.
  3. Stir in the pomegranate juice, ground walnuts, sugar, and cinnamon. Season with salt and pepper.
  4. Bring the mixture to a simmer, then reduce the heat to low. Cover and cook for 45-50 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  5. Once the chicken is tender and the sauce has thickened, adjust the seasoning if needed.
  6. Serve the Fesenjan hot, accompanied by rice or bread.
