Fesenjan (pomegranate Chicken)
Fesenjan is a traditional Armenian dish made with chicken and a rich, tangy pomegranate sauce. This flavorful and comforting dish is perfect for a cozy family dinner or a special occasion.
Ingredients
- 2 lbs chicken, cut into pieces
- 2 cups pomegranate juice
- 1 cup walnuts, ground
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- In a large pot, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until translucent.
- Add the chicken pieces to the pot and brown on all sides.
- Stir in the pomegranate juice, ground walnuts, sugar, and cinnamon. Season with salt and pepper.
- Bring the mixture to a simmer, then reduce the heat to low. Cover and cook for 45-50 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Once the chicken is tender and the sauce has thickened, adjust the seasoning if needed.
- Serve the Fesenjan hot, accompanied by rice or bread.
