Ingredients

  • 1 whole chicken, cut into pieces
  • 2 cups ground walnuts
  • 1 cup pomegranate molasses
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground turmeric
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Heat the vegetable oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until golden brown.
  2. Add the chicken pieces to the pot and cook until browned on all sides.
  3. Stir in the ground walnuts, pomegranate molasses, sugar, turmeric, salt, and pepper. Add enough water to cover the chicken.
  4. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and simmer for 1 hour, stirring occasionally.
  5. Taste and adjust the seasoning if needed. The sauce should be thick and rich.
