Festbier
Festbier is a traditional German beer that is typically brewed for Oktoberfest celebrations. This recipe will guide you through making your own delicious festbier at home.
Ingredients
- 8 lbs Pilsner malt
- 1 lb Munich malt
- 1 oz Hallertau hops
- 1 packet lager yeast
- 1 tsp Irish moss
- 5 oz corn sugar (for priming)
Instructions
- In a large pot, heat 3 gallons of water to 160°F.
- Add the crushed Pilsner and Munich malts to the pot and stir to combine.
- Bring the mixture to a boil, then add the Hallertau hops and boil for 60 minutes.
- After boiling, cool the wort to 50°F and transfer to a fermenter.
- Add the lager yeast and Irish moss to the fermenter, then seal and let ferment for 2 weeks.
- Transfer the beer to bottles or a keg, adding the corn sugar for priming if bottling.
- Let the beer carbonate for 2 weeks, then chill and enjoy!
