Ingredients

  • 2 lbs goat meat, cut into pieces
  • 2 onions, finely chopped
  • 4 tomatoes, pureed
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 inch ginger, grated
  • 2-3 green chilies, slit
  • 1/2 cup yogurt
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 4-5 whole cloves
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 2 tsp coriander powder
  • 1 tsp cumin powder
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh cilantro for garnish

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add cumin seeds, bay leaves, cinnamon stick, and whole cloves. Sauté until fragrant.
  2. Add chopped onions and cook until golden brown.
  3. Stir in minced garlic, grated ginger, and green chilies. Cook for a few minutes.
  4. Add the goat meat and brown on all sides.
  5. Pour in the tomato puree and cook for 5 minutes.
  6. Stir in turmeric, coriander, cumin, and red chili powders. Cook for another 5 minutes.
  7. Whisk the yogurt and add it to the pot. Stir well to combine.
  8. Pour in enough water to cover the meat. Season with salt and bring to a boil.
  9. Reduce heat, cover, and simmer for 1.5 to 2 hours, or until the meat is tender.
  10. Garnish with fresh cilantro before serving.
