Fil Fil Mahshi (emirati-style Stuffed Bell Peppers)
Fil Fil Mahshi is a traditional Emirati dish of stuffed bell peppers, filled with a flavorful mixture of rice, meat, and aromatic spices. This dish is a popular choice for family gatherings and special occasions in the UAE.
Ingredients
- 4 large bell peppers
- 1 cup long-grain rice
- 250g ground beef or lamb
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 tomatoes, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon ground coriander
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 cups chicken or beef broth
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Cut the tops off the bell peppers and remove the seeds and membranes.
- In a large bowl, mix the rice, ground meat, onion, tomatoes, garlic, cumin, coriander, turmeric, salt, and pepper.
- Stuff the bell peppers with the rice and meat mixture.
- Place the stuffed bell peppers in a deep pot and pour the broth over them.
- Cover the pot and cook on the stovetop over medium heat for 1 hour, or until the peppers are tender and the filling is cooked through.
- Serve the Fil Fil Mahshi hot, garnished with fresh herbs if desired.
