Filfil Mahshi, or Aleppo-style Stuffed Bell Peppers, is a traditional Syrian dish that is bursting with flavors and aromas. This dish is a perfect representation of the rich and diverse Syrian cuisine.
Ingredients
- 4 large bell peppers, tops removed and seeds discarded
- 1 cup rice, rinsed and drained
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 tomatoes, diced
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 tsp allspice
- 1 tsp cumin
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 cups chicken or vegetable broth
- Fresh parsley for garnish
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix the rice, ground beef, onion, tomatoes, tomato paste, allspice, cumin, cinnamon, salt, and pepper.
- Stuff the bell peppers with the rice and beef mixture.
- Place the stuffed peppers in a deep pot and pour the broth over them.
- Cover the pot and cook over medium heat for 45 minutes, or until the peppers are tender and the filling is cooked through.
- Serve the Filfil Mahshi hot, garnished with fresh parsley.
