Filfil Mahshi (stuffed Bell Peppers With Lamb And Rice)
Filfil Mahshi is a traditional Lebanese dish of stuffed bell peppers with a flavorful filling of lamb and rice. This dish is a delicious and satisfying meal that is perfect for a family dinner or special occasion.
Ingredients
- 4 large bell peppers
- 1 pound ground lamb
- 1 cup cooked rice
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 tomatoes, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1/4 cup pine nuts (optional)
- Fresh parsley for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F.
- Cut the tops off the bell peppers and remove the seeds and membranes.
- In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the onion and garlic, and cook until softened.
- Add the ground lamb to the skillet and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon.
- Stir in the cooked rice, diced tomatoes, cumin, paprika, cinnamon, salt, and pepper. Cook for a few minutes until well combined.
- Stuff the bell peppers with the lamb and rice mixture and place them in a baking dish. If using pine nuts, sprinkle them on top of the stuffed peppers.
- Cover the baking dish with foil and bake for 45 minutes. Then, remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes until the peppers are tender.
- Garnish with fresh parsley before serving.
