Filipino Beef Steak (bistek Tagalog)
Filipino Beef Steak, also known as Bistek Tagalog, is a popular dish in Guamanian cuisine. It features thinly sliced beef marinated and cooked in a flavorful sauce, typically served with steamed rice.
Ingredients
- 1 lb thinly sliced beef sirloin
- 1/2 cup soy sauce
- 1/4 cup calamansi juice (or lemon juice as a substitute)
- 1 large onion, sliced into rings
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 3 tablespoons cooking oil
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine the soy sauce, calamansi juice, garlic, and ground black pepper. Marinate the beef in this mixture for at least 30 minutes.
- Heat the cooking oil in a pan over medium heat. Sauté the onion rings until they are translucent. Remove the onions from the pan and set aside.
- In the same pan, sear the marinated beef slices for about 2 minutes on each side. Remove the beef from the pan and set aside.
- Pour the remaining marinade into the pan and bring it to a simmer. Add the sautéed onions back into the pan.
- Return the beef to the pan and cook for an additional 5 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken and the beef to cook through.
- Once the beef is cooked to your desired doneness and the sauce has thickened, remove the pan from the heat.
- Transfer the beef steak to a serving platter and pour the sauce and onions on top.
- Serve hot with steamed rice.
