Firecracker Chicken (鞭炮鸡)

Ingredients

  • 1 lb boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp grated ginger
  • 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes
  • 2 green onions, chopped
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 2 tbsp water
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, mix together soy sauce, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, honey, sesame oil, garlic, ginger, and red pepper flakes.
  2. Place the chicken pieces in a large bowl and pour half of the sauce over the chicken. Toss to coat and let marinate for 10 minutes.
  3. In a small bowl, mix cornstarch and water to create a slurry.
  4. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the marinated chicken and cook until browned and cooked through.
  5. Pour the remaining sauce over the chicken and stir to coat. Add the slurry and continue to cook until the sauce thickens.
  6. Sprinkle chopped green onions over the chicken before serving.
