Fish Ambot Tik (goan Style Fish Curry)
Fish Ambot Tik is a classic Goan dish known for its tangy and spicy flavors. This delicious fish curry is made with a special blend of spices and tamarind, giving it a unique and mouthwatering taste.
Ingredients
- 500g fish (preferably kingfish or mackerel)
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 3-4 green chilies, slit
- 1-inch ginger, grated
- 4-5 garlic cloves, minced
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp red chili powder
- 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
- 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
- 1/2 tsp fenugreek seeds
- 1/2 cup tamarind pulp
- 2-3 sprigs of curry leaves
- Salt to taste
- 2 tbsp oil
Instructions
- Marinate the fish with turmeric powder and salt. Set aside for 15 minutes.
- Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, and fenugreek seeds. Once they splutter, add chopped onions, green chilies, ginger, and garlic. Saute until the onions turn golden brown.
- Add red chili powder and saute for a minute. Then, add tamarind pulp and 1 cup of water. Bring it to a boil.
- Gently slide in the marinated fish pieces and curry leaves. Cover and cook for 10-12 minutes on medium heat.
- Once the fish is cooked, adjust the seasoning and consistency of the curry. Simmer for a couple of minutes and then turn off the heat.
- Serve hot with steamed rice or crusty bread.
