Ingredients

  • 500g Chitol fish, cut into pieces
  • 2 onions, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon ginger paste
  • 1 tablespoon garlic paste
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin powder
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 2 tomatoes, chopped
  • 4 green chilies, slit
  • 1/2 cup mustard oil
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 cups water

Instructions

  1. Marinate the Chitol fish pieces with turmeric powder and salt. Set aside for 15 minutes.
  2. Heat mustard oil in a pan and fry the fish pieces until golden brown. Remove and set aside.
  3. In the same pan, add more oil if needed and sauté the chopped onions until golden brown.
  4. Add ginger paste, garlic paste, turmeric powder, red chili powder, cumin powder, and coriander powder. Cook for a few minutes.
  5. Add the chopped tomatoes and cook until they turn mushy.
  6. Pour in water and bring the curry to a simmer.
  7. Gently slide in the fried fish pieces and green chilies. Cover and cook for 10-15 minutes.
  8. Adjust the seasoning and consistency of the curry, then serve hot with steamed rice.
