Fish Dumplings in Gravy, also known as Chitol Macher Muitha, is a traditional dish from Sylheti Cuisine that features delicate fish dumplings in a flavorful gravy. This dish is a true delicacy and is perfect for special occasions or gatherings.
Ingredients
- 500g Chitol fish, deboned and minced
- 1 cup finely chopped onion
- 1/2 cup gram flour
- 2 teaspoons ginger paste
- 2 teaspoons garlic paste
- 1 teaspoon cumin powder
- 1 teaspoon coriander powder
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
- 4 cups water
- Salt to taste
- Oil for frying
- Fresh coriander leaves for garnish
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix the minced fish, chopped onion, gram flour, ginger paste, garlic paste, cumin powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Knead the mixture into a smooth dough.
- Divide the dough into small portions and shape them into round dumplings.
- Heat oil in a deep pan and fry the fish dumplings until golden brown. Remove and set aside.
- In a separate pot, bring 4 cups of water to a boil. Add the fried fish dumplings and let them cook for 15-20 minutes.
- Meanwhile, in a separate pan, heat some oil and sauté the remaining chopped onion until golden brown.
- Add ginger paste, garlic paste, cumin powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder, and red chili powder to the sautéed onions. Cook for a few minutes.
- Pour the onion and spice mixture into the pot with the fish dumplings. Let it simmer for 10-15 minutes to thicken the gravy.
- Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot.
