Fish In Banana Leaf (meen Pollichathu)
Fish in Banana Leaf, also known as Meen Pollichathu, is a traditional Kerala dish where fish is marinated in a flavorful mixture, wrapped in banana leaves, and then grilled or baked to perfection. The banana leaves impart a unique aroma and flavor to the fish, making it a delightful and aromatic dish.
Ingredients
- 4 fillets of fish (such as kingfish or pomfret)
- 2 tbsp red chili powder
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
- 2 tbsp vinegar
- Salt to taste
- 4 banana leaves, cut into 8x8 inch squares
- 4 tbsp coconut oil
- 4 sprigs of curry leaves
Instructions
- Clean and pat dry the fish fillets.
- In a bowl, mix red chili powder, turmeric powder, ginger-garlic paste, vinegar, and salt to make a marinade.
- Marinate the fish fillets in the prepared mixture and let it sit for 15 minutes.
- Place each marinated fish fillet on a banana leaf square.
- Drizzle 1 tbsp of coconut oil over each fish fillet and place a sprig of curry leaves on top.
- Wrap the banana leaf securely around the fish to form a parcel.
- Heat a pan and place the wrapped fish parcels on it. Cook for 5 minutes on each side until the banana leaf is slightly charred.
- Remove from heat and carefully open the banana leaf parcels.
- Serve hot with steamed rice or appam.
