Ingredients

  • 1 whole fish, cleaned and cut into pieces
  • 2 tomatoes, quartered
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 inch ginger, sliced
  • 2 lemongrass stalks, bruised
  • 4-5 red chilies, sliced
  • 1 tablespoon black peppercorns
  • 1 tablespoon tamarind paste
  • 4 cups water
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. In a pot, bring water to a boil and add the tomatoes, onion, garlic, ginger, lemongrass, red chilies, and black peppercorns. Simmer for 15 minutes.
  2. Add the tamarind paste and salt to the pot, then gently place the fish pieces into the broth. Simmer for another 10-15 minutes until the fish is cooked through.
  3. Adjust the seasoning to taste and serve the fish in pepper soup hot with steamed rice.
