Fish Sandwich (fish Cutter)
This Fish Sandwich, also known as a Fish Cutter, is a popular street food in Barbados. It features a crispy fried fish fillet served between two slices of salt bread, along with a variety of condiments and toppings.
Ingredients
- 4 fish fillets (such as flying fish or mahi-mahi)
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 1 cup breadcrumbs
- Oil for frying
- 4 salt bread rolls
- Lettuce leaves
- Sliced tomatoes
- Sliced onions
- Hot pepper sauce
- Tartar sauce
Instructions
- In a shallow dish, mix the flour, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder.
- Dredge each fish fillet in the seasoned flour, then dip into the beaten eggs, and coat with breadcrumbs.
- Heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Fry the fish fillets until golden brown and cooked through, about 4-5 minutes per side.
- Slice the salt bread rolls in half and lightly toast them.
- Assemble the sandwiches by placing a lettuce leaf on the bottom half of each roll, followed by a fried fish fillet, sliced tomatoes, onions, hot pepper sauce, and tartar sauce. Top with the other half of the roll.
