Fish Tamarind Curry (chepala Pulusu)
Fish Tamarind Curry (Chepala Pulusu) is a traditional and flavorful dish from the Telugu Cuisine, known for its tangy and spicy flavors. This dish is a popular choice for special occasions and gatherings.
Ingredients
- 1 lb fish (preferably rohu or catla)
- 2 tbsp tamarind paste
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 tomatoes, chopped
- 1-inch ginger, grated
- 4-5 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 tsp red chili powder
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp coriander powder
- 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
- 2-3 green chilies, slit
- 10-12 curry leaves
- 2 tbsp oil
- Salt to taste
- 2 cups water
Instructions
- Marinate the fish with turmeric and salt. Set aside for 10 minutes.
- Heat oil in a pan and add cumin seeds. Once they splutter, add chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
- Add ginger, garlic, and green chilies. Sauté for a few minutes.
- Add chopped tomatoes and cook until they turn mushy.
- Add red chili powder, coriander powder, and tamarind paste. Mix well.
- Pour water and bring the mixture to a boil.
- Gently add the marinated fish pieces and curry leaves. Simmer for 10-15 minutes until the fish is cooked and the curry thickens.
- Adjust the seasoning and garnish with fresh coriander leaves.
