Fish Tikki (goan Fish Cutlet)

Ingredients

  • 500g boneless fish fillets, such as kingfish or mackerel
  • 1 large potato, boiled and mashed
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 green chilies, finely chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin powder
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1/4 cup fresh coriander leaves, chopped
  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil for shallow frying

Instructions

  1. Boil the fish fillets in water with a pinch of salt for 5-7 minutes until cooked. Drain and allow to cool.
  2. Flake the fish with a fork and transfer to a mixing bowl.
  3. Add the mashed potato, chopped onion, green chilies, turmeric powder, red chili powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, garam masala, fresh coriander leaves, breadcrumbs, and salt. Mix well to combine all the ingredients.
  4. Divide the mixture into equal portions and shape them into round patties or tikkis.
  5. Heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Shallow fry the tikkis until golden brown and crispy on both sides.
  6. Remove the tikkis from the pan and place them on a paper towel to drain excess oil.
  7. Serve hot with mint chutney or ketchup.
