Рыба по-белорусски, or Fisherman's Feast, is a traditional Belarusian dish that celebrates the bounty of freshwater fish in the region. This hearty and flavorful dish is perfect for a family gathering or a festive occasion.

Fisherman's Feast (Рыба по-белорусски)

Ingredients

  • 1 kg freshwater fish (such as carp or pike), cleaned and cut into steaks
  • 3 large potatoes, peeled and sliced
  • 2 onions, thinly sliced
  • 2 carrots, grated
  • 1 cup vegetable broth
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat.
  2. Layer the sliced potatoes on the bottom of the skillet.
  3. Place the fish steaks on top of the potatoes.
  4. Spread the grated carrots and sliced onions over the fish.
  5. Pour the vegetable broth over the ingredients in the skillet.
  6. Cover and simmer for 30 minutes, or until the fish is cooked through and the potatoes are tender.
  7. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  8. Serve hot, topped with a dollop of sour cream.
