Fisherman's Feast (Рыба по-белорусски)
Рыба по-белорусски, or Fisherman's Feast, is a traditional Belarusian dish that celebrates the bounty of freshwater fish in the region. This hearty and flavorful dish is perfect for a family gathering or a festive occasion.
Ingredients
- 1 kg freshwater fish (such as carp or pike), cleaned and cut into steaks
- 3 large potatoes, peeled and sliced
- 2 onions, thinly sliced
- 2 carrots, grated
- 1 cup vegetable broth
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat.
- Layer the sliced potatoes on the bottom of the skillet.
- Place the fish steaks on top of the potatoes.
- Spread the grated carrots and sliced onions over the fish.
- Pour the vegetable broth over the ingredients in the skillet.
- Cover and simmer for 30 minutes, or until the fish is cooked through and the potatoes are tender.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Serve hot, topped with a dollop of sour cream.
